To the dismay of his fellow fisherman he has been landing trophy after
trophy after trophy!

He is a member of Oaks Park Fishing Club and Norton Oaks C.C. Angling Club and 2011 saw him crowned Angler of the Year for both clubs!
On top of that he also netted Oaks Park Biggest Weight of the Year, won
first prize in Norton Oaks Team event and capped off a great year with a
second place in the SY Air Ambulance Charity Final.

At Broadsword we’re really proud of Simon’s achievements. We just wish he’d bring some of his catches into work as we all get a bit peckish during the day!

Rotherham based firm JG Gardening Services approached us recently and asked us to design, produce and apply graphics to their vehicle.

Using our large format print and vinyl cutting technology we had the vinyls
ready in a flash and applied them early one morning so it didn’t impact on
our client’s working day.

Company owner Joe Green said:

We are delighted to welcome on-board, our new print ambassador, and
upstanding young man by the name of Justin Beeboard.

He joined Broadsword just before Christmas and is already a fixture in our reception area, ready to extend a warm welcome to all visitors.
Although on the surface he may come across as a bit of a one-dimensional character, everyone is warming to Justin and the verdict seems to be that he’s a Œbit of a card’. Justin says he initially found the role a bit of a “stiff challenge” but he¹s now quite used to hanging around in front of the boardroom.

Don Valley Stadium was once again the place to see great football when Woodsetts Primary took on Clifton St Anns, the teams were wearing ‘One Game, One Community’ t-shirts supporting the Kick It Out message.

Both teams were veterans from last year’s competition and they battled hard, but after 2 minutes Clfton St Anns broke the deadlock when a through-ball found their striker who fired it past the Woodsett’s ‘keeper.

The game ebbed and flowed from here with chances at both ends before another incisive move by St Ann’s led to a strike and a goal, youngster’s second of the game.

With 2 minutes to go Woodsetts piled on the pressure creating chance after chance, testing the diminutive St Anns goalie who pushed shots on to the post and wide for corners.

Referee Jamie Hudd blew the whistle to end the game and both teams shook hands and congratulated each other.

Don Valley was the place to be again, with some magnificent first half football from the Millers. However the glorious football didn’t finish at half time, as we saw a true encounter between the late comers into the competition Anston Park against a Blackburn side who got quite far in the competition last year.

Blackburn had some great early chances to score, which they would have scored if it wasn’t for some great backs against the wall defending by Park to clear 2 off the line.  However Park would make them pay for their missed opportunities as we saw some colossal throwing from the Park captain what caused great problems for the Blackburn defence and keeper.

We witnessed the ‘Delap’ throws all game from Park, Following a lengthy throw into the box was knocked out for a corner this is where the deciding factor came in the game. A great low corner was met by a surging run to the front post where the little Park striker got his near post flick on which ended up in the back of the net.

Blackburn immediately went straight for a response with a lovely move, which was ended by a splendid diving save. This unfortunately for the spectators was the last real attack as Park, like true professionals, just watched the game out to the final whistle. A real end to end game for the spectators to enjoy.

Rotherham United’s Adam Taylor said after the match “Blackburn had some real quality in their ranks and were unlucky not to score. But I must say well done to Anston Park for the true team effort they showed. It was so nice to see everyone working for each other.”

Next up at Don Valley, when the Millers host Crawley Town, are Lilly Hall and Swinton Queen St. Come down to Don Valley Stadium on the 26^th of November to see another exciting Broadsword Trophy game.

Leanne Race and Neal Docherty, both keen runners, completed the Sheffield 10k run recently, finishing with times that would have left the rest of us at Broadsword on our knees about a quarter of the way round!

Leanne, who usually gets up at 6 in the morning most days to run(!) and earlier this year ran the Sheffield Half Marathon came in the top 15% of women runners – no mean feat.

“I was quite please with my time of 50 minutes but I’m looking to better it next year. Perhaps I’ll hop on a bus, then hide behind a tree whilst the winner comes in, and finish a modest second!!”

Neal, who since the summer has been getting more and more into running and cycling, ran the race just a week after his dad passed away and, although he feels he could have done a better time, he found it a cathartic experience.

“I entered the race with all intentions of running to achieve a great time. My Dad passed away the previous week, which changed my objectives totally.

I decided to run on the morning of the race, having three Quality Streets wasn’t the best preparation but just having the strength to complete the race was my goal.

Reaching the halfway point, I saw my Twin sister and had a cry about my dad but carried on.

Stopping three  times, I didn’t finish in a great time – 48m.45sec but a least I finished.

I will enter next year and run in the memory of my Father – Charles Docherty – Love ya Dad!!!”

Everyone at Broadsword is proud of Leanne and Neal’s efforts.

Where the sign comes into its own however is when, given the inevitability of the British winter, the weather takes a turn for the worse. The small amount of ‘give’ in the material soaks up the battering that the sign gets from gale force winds and driving rain – weather that has damaged or destroyed many rigid signs. The sign is illuminated with heavy duty fluorescent tubes and when projected onto the reverse of the material it gives a really flat, bright surface. So much so that it is clearly visible to passing traffic from quite a distance.

Whilst the Millers were battling with Burton Albion 2 schools went head to head at Don Valley Stadium, in the Broadsword Trophy.

The game kicked-off on a wet pitch with both teams keeping possession and trying to create chances, but it was a day for ‘keepers as every shot was blocked, saved or hit the woodwork.

As the game went on Maltby were having the better chances and found the Meadow View ‘keeper in inspired form. After an eventual game referee Jamie Hudd blew the whistle for the game to go to penalties.

Maltby stepped up to take the first penalty only for the ‘keeper to get hands on it, Meadow View powered their shot straight past. Maltby notched their second penalty before Meadow View put one in the ‘keepers’ grateful arms. Maltby’s goalie, having just saved a penalty, stepped up to take one and it was straight at the ‘keeper. With victory in sight Meadow View’s shot was saved.

The heat was turned up at it went to sudden death. Both ‘keepers saved the opening penalties, then both teams scored, then the third penalties were both saved. The game was on a knife edge as Maltby fired their penalty underneath the keeper, it was all down to Meadow View and with Millers’ Conrad Logan watching on the Maltby ‘keeper pulled off a fantastic reaction save from a powerful shot.

Broadsword’s Neal Docherty, who watched from the sidelines, said: “Meadow View’s ‘keeper was especially impressive during the game making several good saves, I’d like to say well done to Maltby for keeping their nerve and going through to the next round.”

Next up at Don Valley Stadium, when the Millers host Shrewsbury Town, are beaten semi-finalists Woodsetts Primary against St Ann’s who lost in the quarter finals to the eventual runners-up. Come down to the Don Valley Stadium on Saturday 22^nd October to support the youngsters.
